Weather in Jamaica

Weather in Jamaica

What to Expect for Your Visit

The weather in Jamaica is quite nice most of the year. In fact, it's likely that you'll spend most of your time taking in the sun and enjoying the beach climate. On average, the temperature in Jamaica is 80 degrees Fahrenheit, but the average can be as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit some years. The hottest months of the year are July and August, when temperatures can easily soar above 100 degrees.

The coolest months of the year tend to be January and February. However, even in the winter months temperatures remain high, varying from summer by only about ten degrees.

When traveling to Jamaica, rather than considering whether the weather will be hot or cold, be sure to check to see if it will be rainy or not. In short, the rainy season is when the country gets the most rain per day, but it can rain any day throughout the year. During the rainy season, several inches of rain can fall in a matter of hours. The rainy season spans May to June and occurs again from October through November. Traveling at these times is not necessarily a bad thing, though.

When planning your trip to Jamaica, do more than just brush up on the Jamaica reggae music artists you'll hear when you arrive. Keep the following in mind, too:

  • Do check the forecast for the area you will be traveling to. During the winter months, some of the upper mountainous areas can drop to as low as 40 degrees.
  • Do check the rain forecast. It's quite common for some days to have a large amount of rain and sometimes flooding during severe storms.
  • Pack to be cool during the summer months but keep in mind that nights can get chilly. Focus on travel clothing that is airy and dress in layers.

Instant Weather!

Hurricanes

It's also important to note that Jamaica is in a hurricane region. That can make a difference in the overall success of any vacation. Obviously. The hurricane season starts on June 1st and spans until November 30th. However, well-in-advance warnings are available.

Stay Up to Date

When you're planning a trip to Jamaica, remember to check the weather. With weather stations in Montego Bay and in Kingston, this is easy enough to do. The weather in Jamaica is usually fairly enjoyable, though, and that makes for ideal vacations.
