The Sacramental Rites of Rastafarian

Marijuana and Jamaica has a love-hate relationship and you will no doubt encounter someone trying to sell you some ganja while on your Jamaica Reggae Music Vacation.

Though the use of ganja, is part of the Rastafarian sacramental rites, it is still illegal.

Rastas primarily uses this herb at prayer meetings, when the communal pipe or chalice is filled with the finest leaves available, blessed and passed around the group.

But despite the view that all or most Jamaicans approve and smoke ganja, in fact only a very small minority uses this drug and most do not approve.

Tourists as well as Jamaicans are just as eligible for prosecution.

So be warned that if you are caught, by the authorities, with the leaves or plant in your possession it could lead to immediate imprisonment or deportation.

Rastafarian's use of this herb is an essential part of their religion and meditation practices.

And despite the use of marijuana as medicinal, it is illegal in Jamaica.

So please don't end your Jamaica reggae music vacation in jail.
